External Auditors to Review DGPP Purchases from 2021, Says GoldBod CEO

Accra: The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has announced that an independent audit is currently underway to scrutinize the Domestic Gold Purchase Programme (DGPP) since its initiation in 2021. This review aims to assess the financial performance of the programme amid concerns of substantial losses reported by the Bank of Ghana (BoG).

According to Ghana Web, GoldBod's Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, revealed this development during the Government Accountability Series on Wednesday, August 19, 2026. The audit is expected to cover the entire duration of the programme up to the present, with findings anticipated by the third quarter of 2026.

Gyamfi referenced data from a recent International Monetary Fund (IMF) report, which indicated that the programme incurred losses amounting to approximately GHS22 billion in 2025, equating to about 1.5% of Ghana's GDP. Additionally, the IMF reported losses of around $400 million in 2024 and $1.7 billion in 2025 linked to the Bank of Ghana's operations under the domestic gold purchase scheme.

Gyamfi emphasized that the ongoing audit will deliver an independent evaluation of the programme's management and financial results since its inception. He dismissed claims that the IMF had blamed GoldBod for the reported losses, clarifying that the special audit's findings should elucidate the roles and financial impacts associated with the programme. This will provide a comprehensive account of its operations from 2021 onwards.
