‘Expensive Does Not Mean Luxury’ – Efia Odo Criticises Overpriced Products in Accra

Accra: Ghanaian actress and socialite Efia Odo has criticised what she describes as the growing practice of passing off expensive but ordinary products as luxury items in Accra.

According to Ghana Web, the high price tag attached to a product does not automatically make it luxurious or premium.

In a post shared on X on September 10, 2026, Efia Odo argued that Accra is filled with products she considers basic and overrated but are sold at exorbitant prices under the label of 'luxury.' "Baby, expensive does not mean luxury," she wrote.

Further elaborating her point, she stated, "Accra is full of basic, overrated products with audacious price tags, sold as 'luxury' by people who confuse money with taste." Efia Odo expressed her disapproval of individuals who, in her view, equate wealth with good taste and use high prices to create the impression that a product is of superior quality.

She added, "Slapping a high price on mediocrity doesn't make it premium; it just makes it overpriced and I'm sick of it!" Her remarks have sparked discussions on social media about the true value of luxury and the consumer culture in Accra.
