Sogakope: Mr James Gunu, the Volta Regional Minister, has spearheaded a stakeholder dialogue between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope to tackle issues regarding electricity supply, billing, and service delivery in the South Tongu District. The two-day event convened leaders from the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope, ECG officials, and other stakeholders to address power distribution challenges and enhance customer satisfaction in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, the meeting chaired by the Regional Minister served as a platform for the ECG to elucidate operational hurdles impacting electricity supply and to outline the initiatives being undertaken by the Company and Government to bolster power reliability across the region. Members of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope expressed concerns over abnormal and estimated electricity bills and instances of continued billing for disconnected customers. They urged the ECG to promptly address these issues to restore public trust in the Company's operations.
Mrs Eunice Tweneboah-Kodua, Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of ECG, and Mr Solomon Adjiku, Volta Regional Commercial Manager, responded by explaining factors contributing to billing discrepancies and educated participants on the Company's billing systems and meter-reading processes. They assured customers that all legitimate billing issues would be thoroughly investigated and resolved. The ECG also announced plans to enhance customer education and engagement through clinics and outreach programs to improve communication with customers.
Mr Gunu briefed participants on government initiatives aimed at enhancing electricity reliability and service delivery in the Volta Region, urging residents to maintain open dialogue with the ECG to find sustainable solutions to the sector's challenges. He emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the power sector and ensuring reliable electricity services, noting that constructive engagement between ECG and customers is crucial for this objective. Mr Gunu praised both the ECG and the Concerned Citizens for pursuing dialogue to resolve issues and foster mutual understanding.
The engagement is part of ECG's broader commitment to fostering strong customer relationships through transparency and responsive service delivery. The meeting was attended by Madam Victoria Dzeklu, South Tongu District Chief Executive; ACP Emmanuel Ofori, South Tongu Divisional Police Commander; representatives of the District Security Council; members of ECG's Regional and District Management Teams led by Mr Godfred Awuku, Volta Regional Engineer; selected Assembly Members, and leaders of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope.
