Accra: Mr Abdul-Majeed Dokurgu, the Effia-Kwesimintsim Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), has reiterated the Assembly's commitment to pursuing sustainable growth and development projects that will improve the lives and livelihoods of the people. He emphasized the Assembly's determination to eliminate poverty and deprivation from every community across the municipality through sustainable policies and programs.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Dokurgu delivered his sessional address at the Second Ordinary Meeting of the First Session of the Assembly, held in Effia. The meeting served as a platform for Assembly members to deliberate on the revised 2026 Annual Action Plan, revised 2026 Composite Budget, and other matters critical to the municipality's development. Despite numerous challenges, Mr Dokurgu highlighted significant progress made by the Assembly in improving access to quality healthcare, enhancing road networks, and supporting farmers with agricultural inputs.
He outlined initiatives that have laid a strong foundation for growth in the agricultural sector and other key development areas. Mr Dokurgu reported on the promotion of urban agriculture for food security and job creation through innovative technologies. Notably, 192 farmers, including 131 males and 61 females, have been educated on improved agricultural practices, including modern farming techniques and climate-smart practices aimed at increasing productivity.
On security, Mr Dokurgu mentioned that the municipality remains generally peaceful, with security agencies responding effectively to security-related incidents. He assured that the Assembly is committed to collaborating with stakeholders to create a safe and enabling environment for socio-economic development.
Regarding finances, Mr Dokurgu reported that the Assembly generated GHC16,168,413.52 in budgeted revenue, representing 11.6% of the expected GHC139,285,306.28 for 2026. For Internally Generated Funds, the Assembly collected GHC2,614,454.73, accounting for 36.12% of the projected GHC7,190,170.68. The actual expenditure for the period was GHC28,830,569.03, against a budgeted total of GHC139,285,306.28.
On social welfare and community development, 46 Persons with Disabilities, comprising 24 males and 22 females, received grants and items worth GHC244,600.00. In terms of local economic development, the Assembly has undertaken activities to create employment opportunities, boost economic activities, and sustain existing businesses to improve residents' conditions.
Mr Dokurgu also highlighted efforts in sanitation, including regular clean-up exercises to prevent sanitation-related diseases and foster environmental responsibility among residents. He touched on roads, education, health, and ongoing projects, promising to work diligently to bring development to the people of Effia-Kwesimintsim.
