Education Over Extravagance: Assembly Member Urges Parents to Invest in Schooling

Twifo-atti-morkwa: The Assembly Member for the Morkwa-Sebinso Electoral Area in the Central Region, Mr. George Frimpong Sem, has made a passionate appeal to parents to prioritize education over spending excessively on funerals. He emphasized that education is the most effective tool for breaking the cycle of poverty within families, asserting that investing in children's education yields more significant long-term benefits than organizing lavish funerals.

According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Sem highlighted the importance of investing in education at the launch of an Education Fund, which he established to support the construction of a kindergarten block and an ICT centre for the Morkwa D/C Basic School. He argued that no amount of expenditure on funerals could secure a better future for children, while quality education has the power to transform lives and uplift entire communities.

Mr. Sem urged parents to allocate their limited resources towards their children's education rather than spending on expensive clothing and elaborate funeral ceremonies. His appeal is a call to action for parents to reconsider their financial priorities to help break the cycle of poverty.

The Headteacher of Morkwa R/C Basic School, Mr. Josuah Essel, highlighted some of the pressing needs faced by the school. He disclosed that some kindergarten pupils are currently studying under trees due to the lack of classrooms and an ICT centre. Mr. Essel appealed to non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to support the school with computers and assist in the construction of a kindergarten block to improve the learning environment.
