Wenchi: Mrs. Christiana Opoku, the Wenchi Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), has issued a warning to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) regarding vote buying in the party's constituency elections. She highlighted that this practice not only breaches electoral laws but also compromises the integrity of the election process, urging NPP candidates vying for various constituency executive positions to refrain from such activities.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Opoku made these remarks during an interview in Wenchi, located in the Bono Region. The ongoing elections in the constituency are expected to see participation from 1,206 delegates. These delegates represent 148 polling stations spread across 29 Electoral Areas and are tasked with deciding on 27 candidates.
Mrs. Opoku provided further details, noting that two candidates are running unopposed for the positions of Nasara Organiser and Communications Officer. The chairmanship position is contested by three candidates, while two candidates vie for the first vice chairman role and four for the second vice chairman position.
Additionally, the elections feature two candidates for the secretary position, three for deputy secretary, four for organiser, two for women's organiser, two for treasurer, and three for the youth organiser positions. Mrs. Opoku expressed confidence in the conduct of smooth and credible elections, facilitated by the cooperation of the NPP's election committee in the constituency.
