Ebo Appiah Criticizes Exclusion of Local Football Investors from World Cup Benefits

Accra:Ebo Appiah has raised concerns about the distribution of benefits from Ghana's participation in the World Cup, claiming that local football investors are often overlooked in favor of those with minimal involvement in the domestic scene.

According to Ghana Web, Appiah voiced his criticisms during an interview with Sporty FM, where he argued that club owners, local football administrators, and traders who support the sport on matchdays should be included in the opportunities arising from the global tournament.

Appiah pointed out the unfairness in the current system, where individuals who invest in the local game miss out on benefits during the World Cup, while those uninvolved with football gain advantages. He cited Nana Banyin's significant investment in Hasaacas Ladies as an example of how local contributions are undervalued.

He also emphasized the role of traders who sell at stadiums during local matches, suggesting that their efforts help sustain the game and should be recognized when distributing World Cup-related benefits.

Appiah criticized the management of Ghana football, indicating a lack of proper planning and coordination. He questioned whether Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams is the right person to lead reforms, accusing him of focusing on short-term solutions rather than a comprehensive plan.

He called for leadership that unites stakeholders and prioritizes finding solutions instead of assigning blame, advocating for an approach that calms tensions and fosters collective improvement in Ghana football.
