Birim Central Municipality:The Eastern Region Poultry Farmers Association (ERPFA) has adopted a newly amended constitution aimed at bolstering cooperation among its members and enhancing the growth of the poultry industry. The constitution was officially signed on October 1, 2026, at a ceremony held at the Department of Agriculture's Conference Room in Birim Central Municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the event was attended by executives and founding members from various areas, including Denkyembour District, Kwaebibirem Municipality, and Birim Central Municipality. The ERPFA, registered under the Companies Act, 2019 (Act 992) at the Registrar-General's Department on October 10, 2023, seeks to build a more inclusive organization to better represent farmers and support industry growth.
Nana Kwame Effah, the Acting Chairperson of the Association, emphasized that the amendment will foster grassroots participation and improve cooperation among poultry farmers. He highlighted plans for an outreach program across the Eastern Region to raise awareness, expand membership, and engage with poultry farmers.
Effah called on agricultural directors, development partners, private-sector actors, and other stakeholders to support these initiatives, which aim to address challenges in the poultry value chain. He stressed that such partnerships could facilitate the transfer of knowledge and technology, ultimately improving access to services and opportunities for farmers.
Vice Chairperson Alex Asamoah-Bonti noted that poultry farming is a viable entry point into agriculture due to its relatively low start-up costs and potential for quick returns and regular cash flow. He pointed out that farmers can generate income through both poultry meat and egg production.
