Easter Message: “Do not be afraid”

Accra, April 15, GNA – The Right Reverend Dr. Daniel Sylvanus Mensah Torto, Anglican Bishop of Accra, has called on Ghanaians to remain steadfast, seek God and not be afraid of challenges they go through.

He noted that apart from the COVID-19 pandemic, which made many anxious, many still expressed fears about how to find money for their up-keep amid issues of job insecurities.

Bishop Torto said: “We still have concerns about politics and the economic challenges; churches are in fear not knowing where their income will come from when things are seemingly difficult for members.”

Therefore, the Anglican Bishop, in an Easter Message, called on Ghanaians not to be afraid but stay optimistic and faithful that God would make a way.

He said in the Gospel of Matthew, the account of Jesus’ resurrection included two separate but similar occurrences, particularly the use of the phrase “Do not be afraid”.

He said “in Matthew 28:5, first, the angel tells the women, do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as He said.”

“Then, just in case the women did not believe the angel, Jesus himself appears to them and reiterates, do not be afraid. Go and tell my brothers to go to Galilee; there they will see me.”

Those fears, Bishop Torto, noted were like stones in the heart of humans and that just as the Lord said to the women who went to the tomb looking for Jesus, he was saying the same thing to Ghanaians today – “do not be afraid.”

“Let the stones of fear in your life be rolled away. Jesus is alive, and because he lives, we can face tomorrow,” he stated.

The Anglican Bishop of Accra, called on Christian communities in Ghana to live and work to the praise and glory of Jesus Christ and live exemplarily to reflect Christ and send the right message to the world as the light of the world.

“We want to assure all Ghanaians during this Easter 2022 season that we are praying for them,” he said.

“…We appeal to the government to address the economic situation in the country and bring stability to the economy,” he said, and further called on the Government to fix the economy as soon as possible for the collective good of Ghanaians as indicated in the State of the Nation Address.
