Dr Opoku-Prempeh Credited for Dr Bawumia’s Successful Re-Election as NPP Flagbearer

Sunyani: Mr. Yaw Dabie Appiah-Mensah, an elder of the Patriotic Party (NPP), has credited Dr. Mathew Opoku-Prempeh for his pivotal support in Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's re-election as the party's flagbearer for Ghana's Election 2028. Appiah-Mensah highlighted the instrumental role played by Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, who was Dr. Bawumia's running mate in the 2024 elections, in securing this victory.

According to Ghana News Agency, Appiah-Mensah praised the unwavering support provided by Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, a former Education Minister and a leading member of Bawumia's campaign team. Through strategic campaigning, Dr. Bawumia managed to win the presidential primary across all 29 constituencies in the Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions. Appiah-Mensah emphasized that Dr. Opoku-Prempeh's leadership was crucial in these regions, attributing the comprehensive victory to his effective management.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Sunyani, Appiah-Mensah commended the NPP for a successful and peaceful presidential primary. He congratulated former Vice President Bawumia on his re-election to lead the NPP in the upcoming national elections and urged the party to remain united and focused as they prepare for Election 2028.

Appiah-Mensah remarked that Bawumia's victory in the primaries is a testament to the party's continued confidence in his leadership and capability to reclaim political power. He also acknowledged the contributions of other presidential hopefuls, noting their role in strengthening the NPP's internal democracy.

He further lauded the party's leadership for conducting free, fair, and credible elections, which satisfied all stakeholders involved. Appiah-Mensah, who has held various leadership roles within the NPP, advised Dr. Bawumia to avoid complacency and work towards building a strong and cohesive party front.

He concluded by highlighting the challenge of factionalism that often accompanies internal elections and urged Dr. Bawumia, his campaign team, and the NPP leadership to address these issues proactively to maintain and enhance party unity.
