Dr Bonaa Criticizes GRNMA for Gift to Salomey Awiti Post-Detention

Accra:Dr Adam Bonaa has voiced criticism over the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association's (GRNMA) decision to present a monetary gift to Salomey Awiti Baffoe after her release from detention by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).

According to Ghana Web, Salomey Awiti Baffoe, a senior nursing officer, is charged with abetment of crime linked to a social media post by TikToker GhanaJollof, which allegedly involved claims of an attempted coup d'etat at the presidency.

Dr Bonaa, Executive Secretary of the National Commission on Small Arms and Light Weapons, expressed concern that the GRNMA's gesture might encourage the belief that individuals can engage in misconduct and still receive public support upon release. He emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law in Ghana, ensuring individuals face consequences for their actions.

He stated in an interview that rewarding individuals in such situations could send a misleading message to the public, potentially undermining accountability. Dr Bonaa stressed that if investigations reveal Salomey Awiti's involvement with GhanaJollof, she should be held responsible.

He concluded by urging that the police and relevant authorities be allowed to conduct thorough investigations and pursue the matter through legal channels, emphasizing the need for the legal process to proceed without interference.
