Accra: Former Vice President and presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, held a closed-door meeting on September 1, 2026, with the newly elected Ashanti Regional Executives of the NPP at his office in Accra. The delegation was led by the newly elected Ashanti Regional Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA. This meeting is part of Dr Bawumia's ongoing engagements with newly elected regional executives following the party's regional elections held last weekend.
According to Ghana Web, Dr Bawumia addressed the executives, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and unity within the party to secure victory in the 2028 presidential and parliamentary elections. He urged the new Ashanti Regional leadership to involve all stakeholders, including those who were not successful in the regional elections. Dr Bawumia highlighted the necessity of collaboration, stating, "I reiterate my call for unity and the inclusion of all stakeholders, including those who were not elected, for the task ahead because 2028 will require all hands on deck."
He further stressed that the reorganisation exercise, from the polling station and electoral area levels through the constituency and regional elections, serves as a foundational step towards building a robust political framework to reclaim power in 2028. "The goal for all of us is to win the 2028 election. This is just a stepping stone towards winning 2028. We must unite, we must organise, and we must win in 2028. I am committed to working with all of you and every member of our great party to achieve that," Dr Bawumia added.
Chairman COKA and his team expressed their unwavering commitment to work diligently to bolster the NPP in its stronghold and ensure victory in the upcoming elections. Dr Bawumia has already met with numerous newly elected regional executives from the Greater Accra, Central, Western, and Savannah regions as part of his continuous efforts to fortify the party's structure nationwide.
