Accra: Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, a contestant in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries, has been described as the most formidable and prepared candidate, according to Professor Bruce Amartey, a member of Dr Bawumia's Western Regional Campaign Team.
According to Ghana News Agency, Professor Amartey emphasized that Dr Bawumia is the best candidate to lead the NPP in the 2028 presidential elections. He advised the party against changing a well-marketed candidate like Dr Bawumia, who has extensive experience in the presidency arena.
Dr Bawumia previously served as the running mate to former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, who successfully assumed office in 2017 after two prior unsuccessful attempts. As a key figure in the governance of the nation, Dr Bawumia was instrumental in leading the economic management team during his tenure.
Professor Amartey, who formerly coordinated for Alan Kyerematen, an influential NPP member who later resigned to establish the 'Movement for Change' now known as UP Plus, highlighted the significance of continuity in party leadership. He pointed out that both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have historically benefited from repeated candidacies, suggesting that maintaining Dr Bawumia's leadership would be advantageous for the party.
