Mankessim: A Principal Lecturer in Industrialisation and Local Government, Dr Nana Ato Arthur, has commended the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for its peaceful regional executives' elections, which, according to him, 'tells how NPP is ready for the 2028 elections.'
According to Ghana Web, Dr Ato Arthur expressed his satisfaction to the media shortly after the Central Regional NPP executives' elections in Mankessim. He emphasized the importance of unity among both the winners and the defeated candidates to help the party secure victory in the upcoming 2028 general elections. Dr Ato Arthur stated, 'Without unity, we will not be able to achieve our goal, so I want to appeal to everybody in the Central Region that we should be together to win massively in the Central Region and the country at large.'
He further elaborated that with the conclusion of the elections, it is time for all members to come together, irrespective of their previous affiliations or the candidates they supported. 'It is democracy, and we should be able to build bridges and then move forward for a united NPP for victory in the year 2028,' he added.
Dr Ato Arthur encouraged those who did not win to remember that electoral democracy does not solely revolve around winning or losing. He stated, 'You win an election, but it is a win-win situation in the sense that it's a party that we all support. So your competitor won, you lost, but the party won.' He also urged those who emerged victorious to celebrate with moderation, reinforcing that the NPP as a party has collectively won the elections.
The Central Regional NPP executives' elections concluded without incident, with five out of eleven Central Regional NPP executives retaining their positions. Notably, Dr Joseph Kobina Essibu was elected as the new Central Regional NPP Chairman.
