Dr Adutwum Criticizes Ghana’s Policy Transition System

Accra: Former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has voiced concerns over Ghana's policy transition system, describing it as one of the poorest in the world. He highlighted that frequent changes in government leadership often lead to unnecessary disruptions, causing well-formulated reforms to lose momentum and, in some cases, be abandoned.

According to Ghana Web, Dr Adutwum elaborated that effective governance requires building on systems that have already been tested and proven effective. Drawing from his experience as an education minister, he emphasized that successful education reforms were a result of structured coordination and long-term commitment across all levels. He pointed out that the lack of continuity often results in the loss of hard-won gains, especially in critical sectors like education, which require years of consistent planning and implementation.

Dr Adutwum cautioned that the sudden discontinuation of key programs and structures causes the entire system to suffer and struggle to progress. He stressed that education reform should be a continuous national effort, not something tied to political cycles. Leaders, he argued, must be encouraged to maintain systems that deliver results, regardless of who is in power. He concluded by stating, "What I want is that we hold politicians accountable and do not allow politics to justify inefficiency."
