Don’t force players to honour Black Stars call up – Kwame Sefa Kayi urges

Host of Peace FM’s flagship program ‘Kokrokoo’, Kwame Sefa Kayi has called on the Ghana Football Association [GFA] not to force players to accept call up to the Black Stars.

His comments after several players have been reported to have turned down a call up to play for the West African country.

Ahead of the 2022 World Cup playoffs against Nigeria, it was reported that the technical team of the Black Stars have held talks with Mohammed Salisu but after the two legged games, Otto Addo, who is the interim gaffer revealed that the Southampton centre back has demanded for more time to reconsider his decision.

According to the veteran broadcaster, he supports the calls for the Ghana Football Association to bring on board all Ghanaian players abroad who are playing well for the 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign in Qatar but was quick to add that players who are not willing to the Ghanaian course and have rejected call-ups in the past should not be forced to join the Black Stars.

“We need to give the opportunity to any Ghanaian out there who wants to play for the Black Stars to come and play, but my problem is those who rejected the call-ups. We should not force them to come and play for the Black Stars,” he said on Wednesday.

“We called some of them and they refused to come and play so we should move on from them and look elsewhere,” he added.

The Black Stars have qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar after knocking out the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a two-legged playoff game.

Ghana will begin its World Cup campaign by playing against two-time World Champions Uruguay, Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal, and South Korea in November 2022.
