Accra: Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, has reacted to the recent extradition of Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu, the former Chief Executive Officer of the Microfinance and Small Loans Centre (MASLOC), to Ghana. In a video shared by JoyNews on Facebook, Dr. Srem-Sai addressed questions related to the event, notably expressing uncertainty when asked about his feelings on the matter, stating, "I'm not sure about that."
According to Ghana Web, Tamakloe-Attionu was extradited from the United States to Ghana on June 9, 2026. This follows her conviction in absentia in 2024, where she was sentenced to a 10-year prison term. The former MASLOC CEO faced over 70 charges, including stealing, willfully causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering. These offences reportedly resulted in nearly GHS90 million in losses during her leadership from 2013 to 2016.
Tamakloe-Attionu was apprehended in Nevada in January 2026. After a US court validated Ghana's extradition request, the transfer was sanctioned by the Secretary of State. Upon her arrival in Accra, she was under heavy security, reportedly appearing in a wheelchair, suggesting deteriorating health.
This extradition is notable as Ghana's first from the US since 2009. The US Embassy has commended it as evidence of robust law enforcement cooperation between the two countries.
