Shai-osudoku: The Shai-Osudoku District Assembly in the Greater Accra Region celebrated Ghana's 69th Independence Anniversary with a parade and ceremony at the Asutsuare R/C Basic School park, drawing participation from traditional leaders, government officials, and residents.
According to Ghana Web, the event was attended by Member of Parliament Linda Obenewaa Akweley Ocloo, assembly members, political party representatives, and students from various schools, all gathered under the theme 'Building Prosperity, Restoring Hope.' Students demonstrated patriotism through a march past, reflecting on the nation's progress.
In his keynote address, District Chief Executive Ignatius Godfred Dordoe emphasized the importance of the celebration in remembering Ghana's political freedom and the responsibility of citizens towards national development. He highlighted the theme as a call for action, focusing on policies, institutions, and skills development. Dordoe referenced President John Dramani Mahama's State of the Nation Address, noting measures to stabilize the economy and reduce the tax burden.
Dordoe announced development projects including major road works under the 'Big Push Project,' improving transportation, trade, and access to services. He detailed education infrastructure improvements with new classroom blocks and facilities, as well as health sector advancements through Community-based Health Planning and Services compounds and sanitation projects.
The Assembly is conducting a revenue data collection exercise to strengthen funds for development projects, and Dordoe called for community support. He urged participation in the National Sanitation Day initiative and emphasized the need for discipline and responsibility in addressing sanitation challenges.
Addressing students, Dordoe encouraged dedication to education and digital skills acquisition. MP Ocloo honored outstanding students from the district with a cash prize, promoting academic excellence. The celebration concluded with patriotic songs and a symbolic march past, reinforcing the district's commitment to unity and progress.
