Adaklu kodzobi: Residents of Adaklu Kodzobi in the Volta Region are raising concerns about dangerous driving and over-speeding by 'Candoo' and other vehicle drivers plying the Bedrock Hostel and University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) Road.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Simon Meble, a provisions storekeeper at Adaklu Kodzobi, expressed that the attitude of the drivers has become a 'nuisance,' particularly for those living by the roadside. He noted that the drivers seem only interested in the profits they make and disregard the safety of residents, especially school children crossing the road.
Mr. Meble emphasized the need for these drivers to be called to order to prevent any untoward incidents. Students of UHAS residing at Bedrock Hostel in Kodzobi Ando depend on these drivers for transportation to and from lectures.
Mr. Samuel Archie Deh, a pensioner and resident, pointed out that the reckless driving and over-speeding are compounded by overcrowding, as students are often packed into the 'Candoos,' posing further danger. He also mentioned that the dusty condition of the road and reckless overtaking could lead to accidents due to poor visibility.
The Ghana News Agency, upon visiting the area, observed some 'Candoo' drivers carrying up to eight students at a time, with drivers sitting between two students at the front and about five or four at the back. On some occasions, students were seen sitting on each other.
A security officer at UHAS, who wished to remain anonymous, informed the agency that drivers have been warned multiple times to change their behavior but have not complied. When questioned about potential sanctions, the officer remarked, 'if persuasion fails then force must apply.'
