D-Black Responds to Demolition at La Pleasure Beach Resort

Accra:Ghanaian musician and businessman D-Black has expressed his views on the recent demolition at La Pleasure Beach Resort in Accra, calling the development unfortunate.

According to Ghana Web, in a conversation with GhanaWeb's Joseph Henry Mensah during Jacinta's Ghagerian comedy show on October 3, 2026, D-Black voiced his concern about the impact of the demolition on beach club operators, business owners, and workers who depend on these businesses for their livelihoods.

D-Black, known for his hit song 'Vera', noted that this demolition is not an isolated incident, pointing out that similar actions have previously affected other establishments such as Flamingo, Ula Beach, Polo Beach, and Vienna City Beach Club. He expressed hope that measures would be implemented to compensate the affected business owners and workers, emphasizing their reliance on these businesses to support themselves and their families.

The demolition at La Pleasure Beach was carried out by a joint team of military and police personnel, sparking resistance from the Member of Parliament for La Dadekotopon, Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, and generating public debate over the status of the beach facilities and the circumstances of their removal.

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has explained that the demolition was necessary to address persistent unlawful occupation, encroachment, and unauthorized activities on the beachfront near Labadi Beach Hotel and La Palm Royal Beach Hotel. These properties are part of SSNIT's investment portfolio, significant to national hospitality and tourism. The Trust stated its fiduciary responsibility to protect these investments, preserve their value, and ensure sustainable returns for contributors and pensioners.

The explanation from SSNIT coincides with concerns about the demolition's effect on beachfront businesses, with D-Black advocating for protection and compensation for those whose livelihoods have been disrupted.
