Cynthia Morrison Threatens Resignation from NPP Amidst Party Turmoil

ACCRA: Agona West Member of Parliament, Cynthia Mamle Morrison, has threatened to resign from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) due to ongoing issues within the party, particularly concerning its parliamentary conduct. This move could potentially shift the political balance, pushing the NPP into minority status in Parliament.

According to Ghana Web, Morrison’s decision follows a series of developments that have left her disenchanted with the party’s current direction. Her frustration has been exacerbated by what she perceives as hostility from party members, especially after expressing support for Ken Agyapong’s presidential aspirations. Morrison, once a gender minister, was removed from her position and subsequently lost the party’s parliamentary primaries in her constituency. Consequently, she chose to run as an independent candidate, prompting the Speaker to declare her seat, along with four others, vacant. This decision aligns with legal stipulations that prevent politicians from switching from party affilia
tion to independent status.

Morrison’s potential resignation has fueled speculation that the NPP might have attempted to sway her decision through financial or other means, claims she has publicly denied. Despite these speculations, Morrison remains resolute. Kwame A Plus, a public figure, shared her sentiments on social media, highlighting her readiness to resign if the party persists in its current conduct. In his Facebook message, A Plus conveyed Morrison’s ultimatum to the Majority Leader, Afenyo Markin, indicating that her resignation letter is prepared, leaving the decision with the party.
