Court remands two for robbery

Accra, An Accra Circuit Court has remanded two persons for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

They are Kwabena Ofori; car dealer and William Ponto; a trader.

They both pleaded not guilty and will reappear on May 10.

Prosecuting, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) George Amega told the court that the Complainant is a Ghanaian based in the United States and doubles as a car dealer in Ghana.

He said on April 13, William linked the complainant on phone to one ‘Dr Bonsu’, who was interested in buying the complainant’s unregistered Toyota Camry.

He said the said Dr Bonsu agreed to meet the complainant on April 14 to inspect the car, following the arrangement, the complainant on the same day at noon drove the car to the Royal Fiesta Hotel area, where he met with Kwabena, who identified himself as Dr Bonsu.

He said they all boarded the car for a test drive and having driven to a quiet area, Kwabena took over the car to test drive and have a feel of it himself.

He said when Kwabena got to a portion of the road where they were test driving, he pointed a pistol at the complainant, thereby forcing him out of the car.

Kwabena, therefore sped of with the car, while the complainant reported to the police.

He was arrested in course of investigations and was identified by the complainant during an identification parade.

William was subsequently arrested.
