Commercial Drivers and Traders Request Waste Containers at Berekum Lorry Station

Berekum:Some commercial drivers and traders at the Berekum Main Lorry Station have urged the Berekum Municipal Assembly to enhance sanitation efforts at the station. They are seeking the provision of waste containers and dustbins to prevent littering and indiscriminate waste disposal, as they are concerned about residents dumping household waste at the station.

According to Ghana News Agency, Madam Abena, a well-known bread seller at the station, expressed regret that residents also discard household waste into gutters due to the lack of waste containers. This issue has prompted her to call for immediate action from the authorities.

Mr. Oppong Adu, a commercial driver, echoed these concerns and urged the Municipal Assembly to address the problem and improve the station's sanitation. He noted that without dustbins, it is unreasonable for the Assembly to enforce its sanitation byelaws, as drivers and others are left with no choice but to litter.

Mr. Adu further highlighted the disheartening situation where some drivers have to sweep and maintain cleanliness at the station every morning, emphasizing the need for proper waste management infrastructure.
