Accra: The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has addressed President John Dramani Mahama's concerns regarding the state of Colts football, emphasizing that the grassroots competition continues to thrive across the nation under a new name.
According to Ghana Web, President Mahama expressed his concerns about the decline of Ghana's once-popular Colts League, urging the GFA to revitalize the system. During a meeting at the Jubilee House on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, the President highlighted the loss of a crucial mechanism for nurturing young talents. 'There are a few things in our soccer that we have left behind. One is catching young talent. We used to have a very good Colts League. I don't know what happened to it,' he stated.
In response to the President's inquiry, GFA Vice President Mark Addo clarified that the competition has not been discontinued but rather rebranded. 'Your Excellency, the Colts are being played across the country. The name is called grassroots or youth football,' Addo explained during the meeting at the Jubilee House.
