‘Cocoyam Can Turn Your Husband Into a Womaniser’ – Preacher Alleges

Accra: Ghanaian preacher Apostle Richard Kwame Owusu has caused a stir online following a comment he made about the spiritual significance of cocoyam. In a video making waves on X on August 24, 2026, the leader of Jelem Chapel International claimed it is a curse for someone to plant cocoyam in their home. According to him, planting cocoyam in the house can cause a man to become a womaniser.

According to Ghana Web, Apostle Owusu stated, “It is a curse to plant cocoyam in your house. If you plant cocoyam in your house, your husband will become a womaniser.” He further urged individuals to challenge his claims by observing the cocoyam leaf at night, asserting, “If you want to challenge me, look through your window in the evening, and you will see that the cocoyam leaf is sparking fire.”

The video has triggered massive reactions on social media, with some netizens expressing diverse views about the preacher’s claims. While some netizens have criticised the pastor and Ghanaian preachers for spiritualising everything, others have described him as a fake pastor who is feeding on the minds of ignorant individuals.
