Civil Society Organisation holds NREG meeting
Accra- Mr Fredua Agyeman, the Director of Environment at the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation has given the assurance that his outfit will work around the clock to remove buildings on waterways.
He said, strategic governance approach in natural and environment would be established by the Ministry to mitigate the effects of climate change as it was incorporated as a subject in the education curricula.
He made this statement during an inception meeting of the Youth in Natural Resources and Environmental Governance (Youth in NREG) held in Accra.
The Natural Resources and Environmental Governance is a programme of policy, institutional reforms and capacity building to improve natural resources and environmental governance in Ghana.
The meeting organised by members of the Strategic Youth Network for Development, a registered youth – led network civil society organisation drew members from the World Bank Environment Team, students from the University of Ghana (Legon) and Wisdom Ways Academy .
The civil society organisation focuses primarily on deepening good environmental governance.
Mr. Justice Odoi, an official from the World Bank Environment Team commended members for their effort at fighting activities hampering the climate and advised them to partner other agencies to support its activities.
“If you want to go fast, you go alone, but if you want to go far you go with others” he added.
Mr. Odoi said, the World Bank was globally committed to environmental sustainability including; stronger action to support climate change mitigation and adaptation.
He said, the bank also embraced action to remove barriers against those who were excluded from the development process such as women, children, physically challenged and youth to ensure that, the voices of all could be heard.
Mr. Ezekiel Chibeze the Coordinator for SYND said, it was aimed at tracking and contributing towards environment – related policies as well as formulation and implementation of programmes, projects and activities from community to national level.
