Accra:The Chief of Staff, Dr. Julius Debrah, has praised Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, for his leadership in advancing Ghana's mineral resource agenda. The commendation was made during the State and Sponsors' Gala Dinner of the African Minerals Policy Forum - Mining in Motion 2026, held under the theme "One Continent. One Voice on Minerals. Aligning Africa's Mineral Future."
According to Ghana Web, Dr. Debrah emphasized the importance of transforming Africa's mineral wealth into lasting prosperity, beyond just the extraction and export of raw materials. Under President John Dramani Mahama's leadership, Ghana aims to use its mineral resources as a catalyst for industrialization, economic transformation, and creating meaningful opportunities for young people.
Dr. Debrah highlighted the necessity of responsible mining practices that protect water bodies, restore degraded lands, and ensure that mining communities receive a fair share of the benefits. He called for investments in local processing, strengthening indigenous businesses, and creating skilled jobs to drive sustainable economic growth.
He also stressed the importance of a unified African approach to mineral resource development, suggesting that cooperation among countries would enhance the continent's position in the global minerals market. By aligning policies and developing regional value chains, African countries can increase their bargaining power and retain more value from their resources.
Further commendations were given to Oheneba Nana Kwaku Duah and the Ashanti Green Initiative team for organizing the forum, which Dr. Debrah described as vital for dialogue on Africa's mineral sector. Appreciation was also expressed to BOST Energies and its Managing Director, Afetsi Awoonor, for their support.
Dr. Debrah concluded by advocating for a future where Africa's mineral resources are processed and transformed into economic opportunities, requiring collective commitment from governments, industry players, and stakeholders to ensure lasting benefits for future generations.
