Adaklu kodzobi: Reverend Samuel Amegboe, a retired Pastor of the Assemblies of God Church, has emphasized that the character formation of children should take precedence over their rights as future leaders of the country. He asserted that while it is essential to protect children from harm and ensure their rights are upheld, parents have a duty to shape them into responsible adults.
According to Ghana News Agency, Rev Amegboe shared these insights during an interview in Adaklu Kodzobi, within the Adaklu district, in response to the increasing indiscipline among children and youth in Ghana. He expressed concern over the evident lack of discipline in schools and society, warning that the country is sitting on a "time bomb."
Rev Amegboe criticized the alternative forms of punishment promoted by human rights groups, stating they have not achieved the desired impact on children. He argued against the removal of traditional corporal punishment from schools, citing biblical teachings that suggest sparing the rod leads to spoiling the child.
He highlighted the cultural differences between African societies and Western cultures, cautioning against uncritically adopting foreign practices without considering their outcomes. Rev Amegboe stressed that indiscipline has infiltrated every aspect of Ghanaian society, including the church.
