Kumasi: The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, has reached out to President John Dramani Mahama, asking for forgiveness if he has wronged him in any manner.
According to Ghana Web, Wontumi explained that his past actions and statements against Mahama were part of his efforts to promote his party's interests before Mahama assumed the presidency. In an exclusive interview with 1957 News, Wontumi expressed his belief that Mahama should peacefully transfer power to the NPP's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, when the appropriate time comes.
Wontumi stated, "If I meet Mahama, he is our president. At the time he was contesting, I had to work for my party. But now he is our president, so what I will tell him is that the same way Akufo-Addo handed over to him, he should also hand over to Dr. Bawumia." He highlighted that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo transferred power peacefully to Mahama, and he hopes Mahama will reciprocate for the NPP candidate during the upcoming election period.
Additionally, Wontumi acknowledged the human tendency to seek forgiveness, stating, "Once we are human, sometimes we are not above asking for forgiveness. So, if I have offended him (Mahama), I am no bigger than asking for forgiveness. If I have done anything wrong, willingly or unwillingly, I will say I am sorry."
In other developments, Chairman Wontumi has announced his intention to run for the NPP's national chairmanship.
