Agona nyakrom: Mr. Paul Baah, Agona Nyakrom Sub-District Chairman for People With Disabilities (PWDs), has called on the government and relevant agencies to establish a trades center for physically challenged persons in the Agona West Municipality. He emphasized that such a center would provide vocational and technical training in areas like tailoring, dressmaking, shoe mending, and sachet water production, which would help reduce the PWDs' reliance on the District Assembly's Common Fund.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Baah made these remarks during a PWD get-together in Agona Nyakrom. He highlighted that many PWDs possess talents that could significantly enhance their livelihoods if they are properly nurtured. He proposed equipping the center with necessary industrial machines for sewing, shoe mending, and water processing to facilitate skill acquisition.
Mr. Baah also advised PWDs to make careful use of the items they receive from the Assembly, cautioning that selling or diverting them could jeopardize future government support. He called on the Ghana Federation of the Disabled in the municipality to craft a new strategic plan aimed at engaging all its members effectively.
Furthermore, he addressed the high cost of disability equipment and urged the government to provide subsidies to promote the education of children with disabilities. Mr. Baah expressed gratitude to companies, institutions, and individuals in Agona Swedru for their contributions to the event and their continued support of PWDs in the Nyakrom Sub-District.
