Accra: Nkawie: Mr. Stephen Boateng, the Atwima Nwabiagya South constituency Chairperson of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has urged all party members within the Atwima region to bolster their unity in preparation for the 2028 elections.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Boateng made this call during an interview after observing the collation of results from the presidential primaries, where Dr. Mahamud Bawumia emerged victorious in the four Atwima constituencies.
Mr. Boateng highlighted that the significant support for Dr. Bawumia in the primaries reflected a shared vision and purpose among the party members, which could pave the way for unity and success in future elections. He noted that while internal contests have been a part of the party since 1992, members have consistently united after each internal election.
The chairman emphasized the historical unity within the Atwima enclave, which has previously produced leaders such as former President John Agyekum Kuffour, who served as both a president and a Member of Parliament for the then Atwima Nwabiagya constituency. Mr. Boateng encouraged delegates and NPP supporters to put aside their differences and unite behind the elected flag-bearer for the 2028 elections.
He also cautioned party supporters against voter apathy following the defeat of their preferred candidates, as it could create opportunities for their opponents. In the recent primaries, Dr. Bawumia secured a majority of votes across the Atwima region, including 64% in Atwima Kwanwoma, 58% in both Atwima Nwabiagya North and Atwima Mponua, and 51% in another constituency.
