Ajumako: The Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Eduamoah Okyere, has urged workers in the region to change their attitude towards illegal mining and deforestation, citing their detrimental environmental impact. His remarks were made during the 2026 May Day celebration held at Ajumako in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District.
According to Ghana Web, Okyere criticized negative attitudes among some workers and called for an end to illegal tree-felling practices that are harmful to the environment. He also emphasized the importance of improved sanitation practices and commended the government for scrapping taxes such as the E-levy. Furthermore, he encouraged workers to adopt a positive approach to their duties.
In addition, Galahad Alex Andoh, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Deposit Protection Corporation, who represented Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson at the event, urged workers to be patient with the government. He mentioned that efforts are underway to address teachers' accommodation challenges through the construction of classroom blocks and teachers' bungalows nationwide, with more housing projects planned.
Andoh also called for salary increases in the next budget and encouraged the public to have confidence in the government's efforts. The District Chief Executive for Ajumako Enyan Essiam District, Andrews Kojo Duodu, echoed these sentiments, urging workers to remain committed to their duties and assuring them that their concerns would be addressed.
