Accra:Details have emerged following Carlos Queiroz's resignation as head coach of the Black Stars, highlighting several key issues that reportedly influenced his decision to step down.
According to Ghana Web, Queiroz submitted his resignation letter on a Wednesday morning and later that evening met with the Ghana Football Association for a debrief. During this meeting, the Portuguese coach explained his reasons for leaving, stating that the 'right conditions were not well established' for him to continue in his role.
Among the concerns Queiroz raised was the team's training schedule. He was reportedly surprised to find that the Black Stars trained daily at the same stadium where they were set to play, rather than at a separate training facility. His late arrival in Ghana was another point of contention. Queiroz preferred to arrive at least ten days before the team gathered to prepare adequately, but he only arrived two days prior due to a delayed ticket.
Accommodation issues also contributed to his dissatisfaction. Queiroz reportedly preferred the team to stay at the Kempinski Hotel, but they were instead housed at the African Regent. Additionally, he expressed concerns about interference in team selection, noting the presence of players in camp he did not recognize. He called for team selection to be conducted with 'honesty.'
Queiroz also sought greater control over the backroom staff, wanting to bring his own doctor, nutritionist, and team manager. However, he was only allowed to bring in his own nutritionist, with the other positions remaining outside his full control. These issues have surfaced as significant factors in Queiroz's decision to end his short tenure with the Black Stars.
