Abunyanya: The Oti Regional Police Command has reported calming tensions in Abunyanya, a farming community near the Nkwanta North District, following a violent communal clash over a land dispute between Abunyanya No.1 and Abunyanya No.2, which resulted in the death of two individuals.
According to Ghana News Agency, a press statement signed by Superintendent of Police, Mr. John Nchor, the Public Affairs Officer, detailed that the Ghana Police Service received reports of gunfire and house fires in Abunyanya on Sunday, February 1, 2026. In response, a joint team of police and military personnel was dispatched to the communities to restore order.
The statement disclosed that upon their arrival, authorities discovered two burnt houses and the bodies of two adult males with gunshot wounds. The deceased, identified as Gabuha Bolator and Tanaja Ntsayon, were taken to the Nkwanta South Municipal Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.
It was further revealed that opinion leaders from both communities have been engaged and encouraged to exercise restraint while police investigations continue. The statement also noted that joint police and military patrols are being maintained to ensure ongoing calm in the area.
