Sunyani: The Bono Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has successfully seized 11 excavators, eight tricycles, and 32 motorbikes from illegal mining sites within the region. Mr. Joseph Addae Akwaboa, the Bono Regional Minister and Chairman of REGSEC, confirmed the operation and highlighted the council's commitment to addressing illegal mining activities, locally known as 'galamsey'.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Akwaboa emphasized the necessity for community involvement in combating the illegal mining issue to ensure sustainable outcomes. During a media interaction in Sunyani, he stated that neither REGSEC nor the government could tackle the illegal mining challenge alone. He urged community members to support and cooperate with ongoing efforts.
Mr. Akwaboa further explained that REGSEC has made the fight against galamsey a top priority, implementing operations that significantly impact affected communities. He rejected suggestions that REGSEC's efforts against illegal miners had waned, pointing to the recent equipment seizure as proof of the council's proactive stance and readiness to halt illegal mining activities in the region.
