Berekuso: The Chief of Berekuso and Twafohene of Akwapem, Odeefoo Oteng Korankye II, has reaffirmed his long-standing commitment to expanding educational opportunities in the community, describing education as the 'pathway to self sufficiency and development' for the youth. Speaking during an interaction with the media, Nana Korankye II revealed that his decision as the custodian and with the backing of his elders to support the Design and Technology Institute (DTI) plans to establish a new campus in Berekuso was driven by the urgent need to promote technical and vocational skills among young people. According to Ghana News Agency, he explained that he had always envisioned Berekuso as an educational hub, noting that the arrival of Ashesi University and now DTI aligned perfectly with that vision. He stated that modern economies thrive on technology, innovation and hands-on skills, making technical and vocational training indispensable. 'When the youth have skills, they don't depend on anyone for survival. Th ey can create work for themselves and support their families,' he said. The Chief added that his own background in technical mechanics influenced his passion to support institutions like DTI, which combine theory with practical training. Nana Korankye II stated that the establishment of DTI's campus would not only enhance academic opportunities but also open Berekuso up for economic investment. He encouraged business leaders and investors to take advantage of the emerging education corridor, explaining that the presence of major institutions would create demand for infrastructure, housing, commerce and support services. 'My doors are open. Investors should not hesitate to come to Berekuso. Education attracts development, and we are ready to support initiatives that will uplift the community,' he said. Reflecting on his efforts over the years, Nana Korankye said he felt proud that future generations would inherit a community strengthened by quality education and opportunities for self-development. He mainta ined that the collaboration between traditional leadership, educational bodies and government agencies was essential for the long-term transformation of rural and peri urban communities. He assured parents that Berekuso is a safe environment for students who will attend the upcoming DTI campus. He noted that traditional leaders would work closely with educational authorities to address students' welfare and maintain discipline. 'Any parent who brings their child here should know the community will help protect them. We will support the school to ensure the students stay focused on learning,' he added. He advised students to remain disciplined, avoid drugs and bad influences, and take their studies seriously. Nana Korankye urged chiefs and community leaders across the country to open their doors to educational institutions, noting that development begins with opportunities made available to the youth. 'We all have lands. If we support educational initiatives, we support our own future,' he said. The Design a nd Technology Institute, known for its competency-based technical and vocational training, has begun development of its Berekuso campus.
