Sanaa:Benin head coach Gernot Rohr has voiced his dissatisfaction over the treatment his team received in Argentina during Lionel Messi's farewell match on October 6, 2026. In the game, the Albiceleste triumphed over Benin with a 3-0 victory, with Messi contributing two assists and a goal.
According to Ghana Web, Rohr expressed disappointment that neither the players nor the technical team had the opportunity to take photographs with Messi, an occasion seen as significant. The coach also highlighted that security measures prevented them from entering the dressing room to engage with the Argentine players, thwarting their plans to swap shirts.
Rohr further explained that their attempts to present Messi with a bouquet in Benin's colors were unsuccessful. Nonetheless, he managed to have Messi sign a jersey for him through coach Scaloni. The Argentina FA has yet to address these claims or provide an explanation for the treatment Benin received during the match.
