Bawumia Criticizes Economic Management Amidst Ghanaians’ Struggles

Sunyani:Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has criticized the current government's economic management. He insists that economic stability is meaningless if it does not improve the living conditions of ordinary Ghanaians.

According to Ghana Web, Dr. Bawumia expressed these views during the NPP's National Thanksgiving Service at the Church of Pentecost. He argued that while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government claims economic stability, it has not translated into meaningful relief for struggling citizens.

He described the situation as a "tale of two economies"—one being the official economic indicators showing reduced inflation and exchange rates, and the other being the harsh economic realities faced by Ghanaians. Dr. Bawumia emphasized that improvements in these indicators must reflect in the well-being of the citizens to make a tangible difference.

Dr. Bawumia further elaborated that the purpose of stabilizing the economy is to lower the cost of living and improve citizens' welfare. He questioned the government's claims of progress, highlighting issues such as low sales for traders and the high cost of essential services like electricity, water, and transportation.

He also challenged the government to demonstrate how economic improvements have benefited various sectors, including agriculture and public services. Dr. Bawumia pointed out unfulfilled campaign promises, with old video clips circulating online drawing attention to these issues.

The former Vice President concluded by stating that the stability of the economy should lead to the improvement of people's lives, questioning whether the current situation aligns with that goal.
