Babianiha: Babianiha, a community in Agona Swedru, has enstooled a new chief after a decade, aiming to facilitate the development of the town. The new chief, Nana Okofo Gyasi III, a prominent businessman, swore an oath of allegiance before chiefs, queen mothers, and family heads during a durbar in the Agona West Municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, Nana Okofo Gyasi III succeeded his late uncle, Nana Okofo Gyasi II, who passed away over a decade ago. The colorful durbar was attended by a diverse group of people, including Nana Osompa Nyamekye II, Nsafiahene of Gomoa Asian Traditional Area, Nana Nyanful Nsuako XII, Chief of Agona Asafo, queen mothers, and government officials.
During his address to the gathering, Nana Okofo Gyasi emphasized the importance of unity, cooperation, and mutual understanding among the citizens to promote socio-economic growth and improve the standard of living in the town. He stressed the need for support from the chiefs, queen mothers, and family heads to implement strategic plans to make the community one of the best in the municipality.
Nana Okofo Gyasi announced that land had been earmarked for constructing a modern market in the Babianiha community to enhance trading and other economic activities. The market project would be undertaken through self-help efforts, and he appealed to citizens, corporate bodies, companies, and financial institutions within and outside Babianiha to contribute to the project's completion.
To enhance education, an educational fund has been established to support brilliant but needy students, helping them climb the educational ladder. The chief urged beneficiaries to take advantage of the fund to achieve higher education and become prominent citizens in the future.
Nana Okofo Gyasi also called on parents to invest heavily in their children's education, highlighting that education is key to human development. He cautioned the youth to avoid hard drugs, which could negatively impact their lives.
Nana Kweku Esieni V, the Regent of Agona Swedru, expressed joy that Babianiha finally had a chief to administer the community's affairs after many years. He assured that the Swedruman Council of Chiefs would support the new chief to ensure development.
The regent noted that the town had long lacked social amenities and expressed hope that it would soon become one of the best in the area, now that a chief had been installed. He reiterated calls for unity among Babianiha's citizens to advance the town's progress.
