Awula Serwah Challenges Ghana Armed Forces on Illegal Mining Issue

Accra:Executive Director of Eco-Conscious Citizens, Awula Serwah, has raised concerns about the Ghana Armed Forces' inability to stop illegal mining activities, known as galamsey, in the country. She emphasized that the military has the capability to address and end this issue effectively.

According to Ghana Web, Serwah questioned why illegal miners appear to be more powerful than the country's military forces. She called on authorities to take decisive action to prevent the ongoing destruction caused by galamsey.

During a discussion on the impact of illegal mining, Serwah highlighted the need for stricter enforcement of laws against those engaging in such activities. She argued that collaboration among chiefs, political authorities, and police commanders could significantly reduce illegal mining if they collectively oppose it.

Serwah also noted that the fight against galamsey requires more than just discussions and public concern. She pointed out the necessity for political will to enforce laws and eliminate illegal mining. Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of a united effort among traditional leaders, political figures, and law enforcement to make illegal mining unsustainable.
