Aworowa: Residents of Aworowa in the Techiman South Municipality of the Bono East Region are grappling with shock following a distressing incident involving a 42-year-old cocoa farmer, Mr. Kofi Assum, who allegedly attempted suicide by severing his own manhood with a sharp object.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Assum, who also works as a basket weaver, was discovered in a severely injured state, lying in a pool of blood. Neighbors promptly intervened and transported him to the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman for urgent medical attention. Due to the gravity of his condition, he was subsequently referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for specialized treatment.
The incident reportedly took place on Friday, April 17, 2026, at approximately 0600 hours. During an interview at the family residence, Madam Grace Adwoa Agyeiwaa, the victim's mother, disclosed to the GNA that her son had been tormented by persistent auditory hallucinations commanding him to inflict self-harm and end his life.
Mr. Collins Akumfi Ameyaw, a close friend of Mr. Assum, expressed his disbelief, noting that the victim had never shown any signs of mental health issues prior to the incident. Health professionals at the Holy Family Hospital reported that Mr. Assum was in critical condition upon arrival, leading to his transfer to KATH for further care.
