Accra: The Ashanti Regional Chapter of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has launched the 2025 Ashanti GJA Excellence Awards under the theme, 'Celebrating Excellence, Championing Credibility: Journalism in the Age of AI.' Mr Kofi Adu Domfeh, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the GJA, announced that entries should consist of works published between January 1 and December 31, 2025.
According to Ghana News Agency, the award categories include Best in Sports, Education, Arts and Entertainment, Business and Economy, Environmental Science, Climate Change, Crime and Court. Additional categories are Best Feature, Best Columnist, Best Feature Article, and the Kofi Badu Special Award, which honors veteran and retired journalists.
Mr Domfeh, discussing the Association's progress over the past year, said the executives initiated a membership drive upon assuming office. He noted that while they successfully registered dozens of journalists, the formal acceptance process for new members was incomplete due to national-level reforms. He apologized to prospective members for the delay and assured that the process would soon be finalized.
He emphasized that applications for this year's awards were open to all media professionals in the region, regardless of their GJA membership status. Regarding the Ashanti Press Centre project, Mr Domfeh reported it was on track, thanks to the support of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who provided a space for the project. The Regional Lands Commission is currently assisting with the necessary documentation to start construction.
Mr Domfeh expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank Ghana and Access Bank for their financial support of the Press Centre project and their contributions to media development in the Ashanti Region. He committed to continuing efforts to enhance the capacity of media professionals, noting that the executives had connected journalists to various training opportunities over the past year.
