Ashaiman SHS Marks 35th Anniversary with Speech and Prize-Giving Day

Ashaiman: The Ashaiman Senior High School (Ashaisec) has celebrated its 35th anniversary speech and prize-giving day, marking the growth of the school over the years.

According to Ghana News Agency, the anniversary, themed 'Unlocking Potential; Embracing 21st Century Skills for a Brighter Tomorrow,' gathered past students from various year groups, current students, head teachers from different schools, and other stakeholders. Miss Jemima Quarshie, the Headmistress of Ashaiman Senior High School, highlighted that the school was established by the erstwhile PNDC government in 1990 to address the educational needs of the youth in the Ashaiman community.

Miss Quarshie emphasized the school's role in shaping, training, and mentoring students across the country, establishing itself as a prominent agricultural-based educational institution. She noted the school's growth in strength and diversity, with a current student population of 1,246, 71.1% of whom are females.

The headmistress also elaborated on the school's commitment to holistic education, focusing on service, creativity, and resilience while maintaining its foundational values. Discipline, she stated, has become a hallmark of the school, thanks to sustained efforts in mentorship and a strong counseling department.

Miss Quarshie announced the implementation of a 'Leaver's Day' program for final-year students to prepare them for future careers and tertiary education. However, she acknowledged challenges such as water supply issues, despite having two boreholes, and the need for mechanization and refurbishment.

Security and boarding facilities also pose challenges, although Ashaiman SHS has been granted official boarding status. She urged the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly to utilize adjacent land for boarding facility expansion and housing for staff, emphasizing the importance of staff presence for effective supervision.

Furthermore, she appealed to the Ghana Water Company Limited for land donations to support the school's expansion and institutional capacity.

Mr. Freeman Tsekpo, the Ashaiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), highlighted the importance of academic training for future education and announced plans to furnish and complete the E-block of the Ashaiman Technical and Vocational Institution by 2026. He assured the completion of the boys' dormitory and addressed municipal challenges like road and drainage issues.

The MCE encouraged teachers to incorporate technology and innovation in teaching, and urged students to embrace mentorship and skill training for their future development.
