Konongo: The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly has taken significant steps to promote transparency and accountability by outlining its development interventions, revenue mobilization efforts, and expenditure performance over the past eighteen months. Dr. Ebenezer Ekow Aidoo, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), emphasized the Assembly's commitment to prudent management of public resources and keeping residents informed about government policies, programs, and projects within the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, during the Town Hall Meeting held at Konongo, Dr. Aidoo stressed that accountability is vital for good governance. Public officials have a duty to report back to citizens on the utilization of public funds and the progress of development projects. The meeting offered a platform for residents to engage directly with Assembly officials, clarify concerns, and share ideas for the municipality's development.
Dr. Aidoo highlighted that since taking office, the Assembly has prioritized education, healthcare, infrastructure development, social services, and local economic growth to enhance residents' living standards. Despite financial constraints and operational challenges, the Assembly continues to implement programs and projects addressing community needs.
The MCE reassured residents of the Assembly's dedication to transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness. Officials from the Municipal Planning and Budget Units provided detailed presentations on the Assembly's revenue performance, expenditure patterns, and development projects executed during the review period. They highlighted intensified efforts to boost internally generated revenue through improved monitoring, stakeholder engagement, and strengthened revenue collection mechanisms.
Challenges in revenue mobilization, such as inadequate logistics, non-compliance by some ratepayers, and limited revenue sources, were also discussed. Funds from internally generated revenue and central government allocations have supported projects in education, health, sanitation, road infrastructure, and community development.
The presentations provided updates on ongoing and completed projects across the municipality, assuring residents of judicious resource application to address priority development needs. The meeting aimed to deepen citizen participation in local governance and strengthen public confidence in municipal management.
