ACCRA: Archbishop Adonteng Boateng, a Ghanaian American-based theologian and philanthropist, has revealed his pivotal role in mediating peace between gospel musician Isaiah Kwadwo Ampong, popularly known as Great Ampong, and highlife legend Charles Kwadwo Fosu, affectionately called Daddy Lumba. The reconciliation culminated in Great Ampong apologizing to Daddy Lumba, a move aimed at mending their fractured relationship.
According to Ghana Web, Archbishop Adonteng Boateng explained in an interview on Kingdom FM that his intervention was guided by biblical principles concerning forgiveness. He emphasized the importance of leading Great Ampong to apologize as a necessary step for spiritual growth and cleansing. “If I want Ampong to be lifted spiritually in the realms of the spirit, I will have to lead him to cleanse himself,” the Archbishop stated, highlighting the significance of aligning actions with Christian values.
The rift between the two musicians dates back to 2015 when they collaborated on an album t
itled “Hosanna.” Despite the album’s successful reception, tensions arose when Daddy Lumba allegedly took the proceeds from their joint project without sharing them with Ampong. This financial dispute led to a fallout, with Ampong publicly expressing his grievances in a 2016 interview.
In 2023, however, Great Ampong issued a public apology to Daddy Lumba, marking a turning point in their relationship. The apology sparked mixed reactions, with some speculating that Archbishop Adonteng had pressured Ampong into making the gesture. Addressing these claims, the Archbishop clarified that his motivation was to prepare Ampong for ordination by guiding him through the process of reconciliation.
The reconciliation effort underscores the Archbishop’s commitment to fostering unity and forgiveness within the community, aligning with his broader mission as a religious leader.
