Antoine Semenyo Withdraws from Black Stars Due to Injury

Manchester:Manchester City winger Antoine Semenyo has withdrawn from the Black Stars squad after sustaining a foot injury before the international break.

According to Ghana Web, veteran sports journalist Michael Oti Adjei reported that Semenyo informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) about the injury and his inability to participate in the upcoming games. Semenyo assured the GFA that his reason for withdrawal was genuine, expressing his willingness to travel to Ghana for an assessment by the Black Stars medical team.

The GFA understood Semenyo's situation and granted his request to be excused from the national team for the September/October international break. Despite his recent participation in a game for Manchester City, Semenyo conveyed to the GFA that he could not play for the national team due to the injury.

Semenyo's absence adds to the challenges faced by Black Stars coach Carlos Queiroz, who will also be without several key players, including Jordan Ayew, Kudus Mohammed, Baba Rahman, Alidu Seidu, Nathaniel Adjei, and Prince Kwabena Adu, for the crucial upcoming matches.

Ghana is set to play C´te d'Ivoire in Bouak© on September 24, followed by a match against The Gambia in Accra on September 29, 2026. The team will conclude the international break with a friendly against Morocco on October 4, 2026. These matches are critical as Ghana aims to secure positive results and strengthen their position in the qualifiers, avoiding last-minute complications in their qualification campaign.
