Anthony Joshua Vows to Honor Friends Lost in Tragic Car Accident

Lagos: Two-time heavyweight champion, Anthony Joshua has said he is focused on building a legacy for his two close friends, Kevin Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, who died in a car crash in Nigeria. According to him, he was deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic incident, which he never imagined would happen.

According to Ghana Web, Joshua noted that walking with his friends made him feel protected and shielded, adding that their contributions to his career would be greatly missed. He shared his feelings on the loss, stating, "It's actually comforting knowing I've got two brothers on the other side. You know, I've lost people before, but I don't think I've lost people like that. My left and my right, throughout this journey that I've been on. It's not easy, but they've been good."

The British boxer expressed his commitment to building a legacy by fulfilling the dreams of his deceased friends for their families. "I understand what they wanted to do for their families. So my goal is to continue to help them achieve their goals, even though they may not be here physically. When I pray at night, when I pray in the morning, I know spiritually they're going to aid me through, because it's not just physical strength that will get me through."

Joshua emphasized the importance of spiritual strength, noting, "It's going to take a lot of strength from a higher power. So I'm definitely going to be saying my prayers, and I'm going to help them fulfill their dreams for their families. Not only me, there's a whole team of us, a whole brotherhood, a whole sisterhood that will be helping fulfill their legacy and their dreams."

The tragic accident occurred in Ogun State, Nigeria, on Monday, December 29, 2025, when the vehicle carrying Joshua's friends collided with a stationary truck on a busy highway in Makun. The accident took place just hours after Joshua and his associates had reportedly spent time playing tennis together. The incident highlights the sudden and unforeseen nature of loss, which Joshua is determined to overcome by honoring his friends' legacy.
