Accra:Former Black Stars defender Anthony Baffoe has declined an invitation to join a committee tasked with finding a new head coach for Ghana's national football team. This committee was established by Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams following the resignation of Carlos Queiroz as head coach.
According to Ghana Web, the committee, chaired by former Ghana Football Association Vice President Fred Pappoe, includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, FIFA high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah, and football administrator Agbesi Dzakpasu. Baffoe was named as a member but reportedly had not accepted the position prior to the official announcement.
Citi Sports reports that Baffoe was not properly consulted before his name was included in the list of committee members. He has communicated his decision not to participate, citing concerns about the broader approach to football development in Ghana.
Despite declining the committee role, Baffoe remains supportive of Ghana's football endeavors and is open to contributing in other capacities. His decision comes amid efforts by the Ministry of Sports and the GFA to appoint a new coach following recent setbacks in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where Ghana lost to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia. The Black Stars are set to play against Somalia in their next qualifier in November.
