Obuasi: AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi Mine has commenced the construction and furnishing of a modern 400-bed girls' dormitory at T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School in Fomena, located in the Adansi North District. The project is part of the Mine's 10-Year Socio-economic Development Plan (SEDP), emphasizing its commitment to improving student accommodation and welfare across its host communities. According to Ghana News Agency, the purpose-built, two-storey facility will provide a safe and fully serviced residential environment for students, whose previous dormitory was destroyed by a fire in February 2025. Each floor of the dormitory will accommodate 200 students, arranged in four bays to enhance supervision, optimize space, and strengthen fire compartmentalization. The dormitory will include 20 water closet units and 18 shower bays on each level, with proper plumbing and drainage systems. Additionally, it will feature self-contained teacher's quarters, administrative offices with washrooms, ironing rooms, and a dedicated power room. The facility will be fully furnished with bunk beds, sanitary fixtures, and electrical fittings to ensure immediate operational readiness. Mr. Eric Broni, the Director of Engineering at AngloGold Obuasi Mine, stated at the groundbreaking ceremony that the initiative aligns with the company's purpose of mining to empower people and advance societies. He mentioned that the Mine is committed to improving educational outcomes in its local communities, with ongoing projects such as a nine-unit school at Sanso, examination centers, a robotics center, and the distribution of NaCCA-approved textbooks. Nana Amoanimaa Dede II, the Adansihemaa, praised AngloGold Ashanti for its sustained investments under the SEDP, highlighting that the new dormitory will significantly enhance living conditions for girls and support academic performance. To promote local economic growth, the contract for the project has been awarded to Golden Mainland Ghana Ltd, an Obuasi-based contractor, with a 12-month complet ion timeline.
