Accra: Residents of Anfoega Wadamaxe have appealed to the government to urgently complete an abandoned road project and extend electricity to accelerate development. The residents said the abandoned road project had left sections of the community's main access road in a worse condition than before construction commenced, hampering transportation, farming activities, and access to essential services.
According to Ghana Web, Samson Ogbo, a resident, expressed the community's initial optimism regarding the road project, which quickly turned into disappointment after the contractor abandoned the site. 'They came and promised to work on the road, and we welcomed the development. But it now appears they have turned their backs on the promise they made to the entire community,' Ogbo lamented.
Ogbo further explained that excavation works carried out during the project's initial stages created deep gutters and drainage channels, posing flooding risks to nearby houses and public facilities. His residence, located opposite the Church of Pentecost, along with the church premises, had become vulnerable to flooding due to incomplete drainage works, forcing his family to relocate.
He appealed to the government to complete the road and provide a good road network that would benefit the entire community. The residents emphasized that the poor road network had adversely affected agricultural activities, as farmers regularly lost produce because vehicles could not access the community, particularly during the rainy season.
Elder Joseph Owusu of the Holy Ghost Power Prayer Centre called on the Member of Parliament for North Dayi to facilitate the extension of electricity to the community and support efforts to complete the road project. He noted that poor road conditions had reduced church attendance and hindered access to the area.
Divine Ameka, a farmer, highlighted the significant challenges posed by the deplorable road for motorists, farmers transporting produce, and pregnant women seeking emergency healthcare. He appealed to the government and relevant authorities to expedite the completion of the project and provide electricity to improve livelihoods in the community.
